Classic Birthday Cake Recipe: Make at your home

This classic birthday cake recipe is simple to follow and produces a moist and fluffy cake with a delicious buttercream frosting.

Step-1

Ingredients For the cake: 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar 3 large egg 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup milk

For the buttercream frosting: 3 cups powdered sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened 1/4 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and dust flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with the milk, beating until just combined.

Pour batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting.

To make the buttercream frosting: In a large bowl, cream together the powdered sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
